Ruth joined the Lifecycle team in 2022. Ruth has been a Midwife since 2016, and has been working in the maternal and child health field since 2007. She has worked as a full-scope Certified Nurse Midwife at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Southern Oregon from 2017 to 2020 and more recently at Jefferson Ob/Gyn in Center City Philadelphia from 2020 to 2022. Prior to graduating from The University of Pennsylvania as a Women’s Health and Gender-Related Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse Midwife in 2016, she worked as a registered nurse in the Neonatal and Infant intensive care unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia from 2012 to 2015. Ruth has also worked as a birth doula, a Spanish-language medical interpreter, a community health advocate and peer breastfeeding counselor, a breastfeeding resource nurse, and a research assistant in maternal health.
After having her second child at The Birth Center in December 2021, Ruth was excited to join the team in the Spring of 2022. Ruth is so grateful to be able to practice in a setting where the midwifery model of care is upheld and client autonomy and shared decision-making are prioritized. Ruth is passionate about many aspects of obstetric and gynecological care, including menopause, contraception, pregnancy, birth, perinatal mental health, nutrition in pregnancy, and reproductive justice.
When not at work, Ruth can be found spending time outdoors with her two children, trying out new recipes, and trying to keep her houseplants alive!
