Midwife

Molly McShane, CNM

Molly joined the Lifecycle team in fall of 2024. She is originally from Washington, D.C. With an undergraduate degree in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies, Molly initially came to the world of midwifery as a birth doula. Inspired by her own birth story (caught by midwives in a birth center) and a passion for sexual and reproductive health, she trained as a doula in Vermont in 2015. She moved to Brooklyn and started working as a full-spectrum doula with the Doula Project, supporting pregnant people experiencing all reproductive outcomes including birth, miscarriage, and abortion. She also worked as an administrator and medical assistant at a small midwifery practice. Molly then started nursing school at Yale and graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing in 2022 as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. While in school, she worked as a nurse at Planned Parenthood in New Haven and organized an interprofessional Health Justice course for student health professionals. Molly also completed a concentration in Gender, Sexuality and Health Justice, which deepened her commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ family-building and providing gender-affirming care.

Molly is interested in all aspects of obstetric and gynecologic care. Their practice is grounded in reproductive justice and they strive to bring harm reduction, trauma-informed, and health at every size approaches to their work. They love catching babies and demystifying pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with parents, as well as being a supportive companion through the complex feelings and experiences that arise through the perinatal period. They seek to build trust so patients can feel supported and empowered in whatever twists and turns their pregnancy and birth may take. Molly enjoys working with people of all ages.

Molly now lives in Philadelphia and enjoys being close to family and friends up and down the east coast. You can find her frequenting the pottery studio and the farmer’s market in Clark Park. She has a home full of plants and pregnancy themed art. She is an avid women’s basketball fan and is eagerly awaiting a Philadelphia WNBA team.
