Aqueelah, Brian and Olivia’s Birth Story
“I gave birth to my daughter Olivia in 2016 at The Birth Center. I cannot believe how fast the time has flown. While pregnant, I was in my last year of nursing school and everyone at LWC made me and my husband feel safe, confident, and excited about our birth journey as new parents.
I had the most amazing birth experience with Advah as my midwife, Megan as my labor support nurse, and Autumn as the midwife catching. I trusted them wholeheartedly and with their comfort and instruction I had the most amazing labor and delivery I could imagine. LWC cares for the entire family so my husband and I felt so empowered. The classes we had taken prepared us so much for labor and for the coming days at home.
Although we had a slight scare a couple days after birth with Olivia’s hyperbilirubinemia, it was our home visiting nurse that acted fast and arranged a spot for us at Bryn Mawr NICU. Olivia had to have an exchange transfusion and we were scared to make life altering decisions so soon. We were completely supported by LWC everyday with phone calls to check on us. Olivia pulled through and a week later we were home trying to adjust again. I had breastfeeding help from Patty without whom I probably would have quit. I left my lactation consultation with an individualized plan and confidence to proceed which I successfully breastfed for 12 months.
I graduated from Neumann University with my BSN when Olivia was 7 months old and accepted a nursing position with Duke University Health. Not only did LWC support and care for my family they also inspired and encouraged me professionally. At some point during my care I met with Amy who encouraged me to consider continuing my education. Thanks to her I’m currently doing my research to find the right NP program. I hope to carry on the spirit of all that you do for your clients.
I cannot thank everyone at LWC enough for the highest and most intimate level of care anyone could ask for. We recommend anyone we know to you. We are sad that we are now so far away and cannot imagine having another child without you guys, no one compares! LWC will forever hold a special place in our family’s heart.
